Rhodochrosite belongs to the calcite group. Its crystalline system is rhombohedral, and it typically appears in compact, fibrous aggregates. It is very rare to find Rhodochrosite in crystal form.

Rhodochrosite is essentially composed of manganese carbonate, which gives it its beautiful pink color. The name comes from the Greek "Rhodo," meaning "rose."

The deposits are found mainly in the United States and South Africa.
